GAPC, other jewellers bodies hail re-financing on Jewellery export

LAHORE 12th-September,2006: Muhammad Ahmad, President Gold Art Promotion Council-Pakistan (GAPC-Pakistan) and Chairman Lahore Division Sarafa & Jewellers Association (LDS&JA) and other jewellers associations have hailed the government announcement of export re-financing on gold jewellery and termed the valuation condition a bottleneck in the increase of exports.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the jeweller association representatives have appreciated the decision and said that it was a long-standing demand of the jewellers’ community. They were of the view that it far reaching effects could only be achieved if small and medium exporters of gold jewellery were also given opportunities.

Moreover, they also demanded of the government to get rid of this newly declared industry of gold jewellery from the control and monopoly of a handful of jewellers. Otherwise, this decision will go waste as the jewellers community had witnessed in the case of Jewellery Development Institute and other projects.

The associations office-bearers urged the government that it should further take such revolutionary measures for the development and promotion on the jewellery industry, so that this tiny plant may grow and take the shape of a big tree.
